Hello! I’m an ancient historian who focuses on archaic and classical Greek religion. I'm currently writing two books: one on Hades, and one on Underworld gods, both under contract with Routledge. You can find out more about both these books and my new on-going project Belief, Behaviour, and Belonging: Assessing Embedded Religion in Ancient Greece, under the 'Research' tab.
I work in the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Leicester, where I'm a Teaching Fellow in Ancient History. I'm also a Research Associate at the Institute of Classical Studies in London, and the post-PhD disability liaison for the Women's Classical Committee. If you want to find out more, my current CV can be found below!
I'm a focused and passionate teacher, and I aim to develop innovative and interesting classrooms. I'm not into creating a false hierarchy in my classrooms, instead I strive to develop open learning environments, in which students take an active role.
I sometimes write about my research (and will be doing more of this in the coming months, as I begin a new project), but I currently write predominantly about my academic practice - including researching, writing, and teaching. You can also watch my vlogs and other videos on YouTube, or chat with me on Twitter, I'm @elliemackin.
